Lady Tigers overcome 6-1 deficit to defeat Washington in extra innings

A matchup of two great softball powerhouses to start off the season, Both the Tuttle Lady Tigers and the Washington Lady Warriors have faced each other in the opener for the last few seasons. The Lady Tigers had not beaten Washington since the 2018 season when they defeated them 15-0. The first two innings went scoreless but both teams made big plays on defense. The top of the third inning, The Lady Warriors would get on the board on a bunt from Kinzlee Pogue that turned into an RBI double. The game would go back into a defensive battle the next two innings but the Lady Warriors got the bats going in the top of the sixth inning with and RBI single from Shelbie Caneness, An RBI double from Emjay Lucas and an two run in park home run from Reese Schrader. The bottom of the seventh, The Lady Tigers would rally back and put up five unanswered runs on RBI singles from Layla Kerr, Lexie Sirman and a home run from Ella Vargas to tie the game and send it to extra innings. Eighth inning would be scoreless and both teams made some big plays on defense. Bottom of the ninth the Lady Tigers had the bases loaded and Skyler Rodgers would score the game winning run on a passed ball and the Lady Tigers would get their first win over the Lady Warriors since 2018 with a 7-6 win in extra innings.

Lexie Sirman lead the Lady Tigers in hits going 3-4 at the plate. Ella Vargas lead the team in runs batted in from the seven spot in the lineup and went 2-3 on the day. Olivia Palumbo lead the Lady Warriors with two runs and went 1-4 on the day.

Oakley Vickers started the day for the Lady Tigers in the circle and allowed seven hits and five runs over five and two-thirds innings. Avery Laird pitched three innings in relief and allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking none. Olivia Palumbo pitched the whole game for the Lady Warriors and allowed 15 hits and seven runs over eight and two-thirds innings and walking two.

The Lady Tigers are back in action today at Marlow while the Lady Warriors host Little Axe in 3A-3 district play.
