Mustang prevails in shootout with Southmoore to win second title in three seasons

The Mustang Lady Broncos was coming into the state championship on a hot streak of scoring and since regionals leading up to the state championship they had put up a combined 75 runs and counting. The Southmoore Lady Sabercats was also on coming into the finals on a similar path putting up a combined 89 runs since Regionals and these two teams were very familiar with each other, The first time they met back on March 27th the result would be a 38-35 game and again on April 17th at the Southmoore Big Cat Classic 9-1, Both Lady Broncos victories and this would be the third time the two teams meet but this time on the biggest stage. The first inning would start out slow for both teams but the Lady Broncos would strike first with a solo home run from Reese Poage then bottom of the inning Lainey King would answer back with a solo home run to tie it. Top of the third the Lady Broncos would get six home runs in the inning from Alexis Kierstead, Rylann Beeson, Madeline Rush, Mackenzie Sessions, Nyli Brown and Reese Poage would get her second home run of the day, Bottom of third the Lady Sabercats would get on the board with RBI singles from Kaylee Carter and Lainey King and an RBI double from Riley Sharp to score Taylor Cronic from third, The Lady Sabercats would then get their first lead of the game behind a three run home run from Olivia Smith. Top of fourth the Lady Broncos would score a run from Alexis Kierstead at third but a double play brought the inning to a close. Bottom of fifth the Lady Sabercats would score another run from Riley Sharp at third despite a ground out at first then Taitum Bradshaw would get three more runs on the board with a three run homerun to take a 14-9 lead going into the sixth. The Lady Broncos would answer back with three home runs in a row, Alexis Kierstead and Rylann Beeson both with their second on the day and Eden Anderson with one as well and they would take the lead back on an RBI double from Abigail Keele to score Reese Poage, Madeline Rush and Mackenzie Sessions. Top of the seventh the Lady Broncos would score two more runs on RBI singles from Reese Poage and Mackenzie Sessions to take a three run lead going into the bottom of the inning, Lady Sabercats with one more chance to get runs and Olivia Smith would get her second home run on the day to cut the deficit to two but the Lady Bronco defense would come up big on the next two outs to hang on and win it 17-15 and win their second title in three seasons.
