The Washington Warriors came into Chad Richison Stadium at the University of Central Oklahoma with one goal in mind and that was bring home the gold ball. The Warriors was in their third consecutive championship game and looking to get it done this time, They had fallen to Marlow and Metro Christian the last two seasons and they was coming into this game with an impressive defensive resume, The team overall had not allowed more than 14 points the entire playoffs, On the other side of things you have the Millwood Falcons was back in the championship for first time since 2017 when they defeated this same Washington team 42-7 so fast forward five years later and we have a rematch of that game once again on the biggest stage.
The first quarter would start out as a chess match of the run game and defense. The Warriors would march down the field lead by quarterback Major Cantrell and they would strike first with a two yard run by Cole Scott on the goal line to go up 7-0, Later on in the first quarter it would be quarterback CJ Turnbull’s chance to lead the charge downfield for the Falcons and they would get on the board with a two yard rush by Rickey Hunt Jr but they would miss the two point try so the score would be 7-6. The second quarter would see both defenses on full display as both teams would be scoreless and we would go into halftime at 7-6, Coming out of the locker room the Falcons would get the second half kickoff after deferring from the first half and after dominating defense from both sides the Falcons would take their first lead of the game when CJ Turnbull would find William Mays on the screen pass for a 25 yard touchdown and get the two point conversion to make it 14-7, Going into the fourth quarter the Warriors would have the ball and would be facing a fourth down with a big decision so head coach Brad Beller would send Mayson Thomas out there for a 25 yard field goal which he would make and it would be a 14-10 game, From there the Warriors defense did it’s job and Major Cantrell would lead a decisive drive and with less than 3:00 to go in the fourth he would throw the game deciding touchdown to Nate Roberts from eight yards out to take the lead 17-14 and with 2:31 to go the Warriors defense came back out on the field to finish the job and with about :30 left to go after a couple kneeldowns and a long fourth down upcoming, Major Cantrell would take it himself and get it down to the one yard line and that would do it for the Warriors as they win their first state championship since 1996 by the score of 17-14.
