Another great State Tournament has come and gone and there was a lot of really good softball the past few days. The State Championships had some very exciting matchups in store, Every game was decided by two runs and there was good plays and pitching battles all around
The Class B State Championship was the first game of the day between the Stuart Lady Hornets and the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs, Stuart was going for their first title since 1964 while Whitesboro was going for first title in school history, The pitching matchup would feature Kira Medders for Stuart and Madison Grogan for Whitesboro. Stuart would strike first behind an RBI single from Haili Igou to score Geralyn Haney from third, Lady Hornets would strike again in the second on a throwing error that allowed Maddie Linley to score from second, Jadyn Dalton would get an RBI double that put up three runs in the third inning. Whitesboro would get on the board in the third behind an RBI double from Linley Collins to score Madison Grogan, In the fourth Darah Cole would get an RBI double to score Kayleigh Walker, Their last run came in the seventh on RBI single from Addison Walker. Lady Hornets would go on to win 5-3 and win their first title in nearly 60 years and their second overall.
The Class 3A State Championship would be the second game of the day between the Washington Lady Warriors and the Tishomingo Lady Indians, This would be Washington’s fifth consecutive championship appearance since 2018 and they was going for their second straight title while Tishomingo was back in the championship for first time since 2020, The pitching matchup would feature Maggie Place for Washington and Jayden Anderson for Tishomingo. Washington would strike first in the first inning on an RBI single from Elly Allison to score Ellie Lovelace from first and then in the third inning Tinley Lucas would get a solo home run to deep left field to get another run on the board. Washington would go on to win 2-0 and not only secure back to back titles but also get their sixth consecutive shutout across two state tournaments.
The Class A State Championship would be the next game on the day between the Caddo Lady Bruins and the Ripley Lady Warriors, This would be Caddo’s second consecutive championship appearance while Ripley was in for the first time since 2020, The pitching matchup would feature Emily Robinson for Caddo and Brooklyn Gobble for Ripley. These two teams met last spring in the Class 2A slowpitch state championship so they was familiar with each other. The game would be scoreless up until the fourth when the base running came alive for the Lady Bruins, Emily Robinson would hit a sac fly to foul territory which lead to Jaycie Nichols scoring after tagging at third then Rylan Peevyhouse would score Kadey McKay on an infield single. Lady Bruins defense would hold on to win their second consecutive title 2-0.
The last game of the night would be the Class 2A State Championship between the Morrison Lady Wildcats and the Pocola Lady Indians, This would be Morrison’s second consecutive championship appearance and looking to win it for first time since 2019 while Pocola was going for first championship since 1979, The pitching matchup would feature Hally Vaughn for Morrison and Allyssa Parker for Pocola. Interesting thing about this matchup is these two teams was familiar with each other as they met in the Class 3A slowpitch state championship last spring. This game had a similar start to the Caddo/Ripley game where it started scoreless but the lone score would come from a two run home run to center field from Kallie Rupp to score Aleigh Tucker from third, From there on out the Lady Wildcats defense would hold on to secure the state championship.
