EDMOND — In a cold, tense championship finish at Chad Richison Stadium, Tuttle got the go-ahead score with 42 seconds left and held on to beat Elgin 23–20 Saturday night to win the Class 4A state championship.
The game opened with instant chaos as Tuttle grabbed a 2–0 lead on a safety after a bad snap sailed out of the back of the end zone. Elgin answered with a quick strike when Cayden Belletto hit Braxten Antuna for a touchdown, but a missed extra point kept it 6–2 before Shaun Rounsaville ripped off a long touchdown run to swing the Tigers back in front 9–6.
Elgin reclaimed the lead early in the second quarter behind Ritson Meyer’s power running, then Tuttle countered through the air as Cruz Campbell found Jalen Lane for a touchdown to put the Tigers up 16–13 at halftime. A scoreless third quarter set up the closing sequence, and when Meyer punched in his second touchdown on a 1-yard run, Elgin jumped ahead 20–16 with under five minutes left.
Tuttle answered with its biggest drive of the night. Campbell delivered a strike to Wick Kohmescher for a 20-yard touchdown with 42 seconds remaining, and the Tigers’ defense finished it off in the final seconds to seal the one-score escape.
