EDMOND — Behind a game-changing third-quarter response and a defense that slammed the door late, Lincoln Christian edged Sulphur 24–21 Friday afternoon to win the Class 3A state championship at Chad Richison Stadium, securing the Bulldogs’ first football three-peat and fifth state title overall in school history.
Lincoln Christian struck first when Braedon Baker ripped off a long touchdown run in the opening quarter to make it 7–0. Sulphur settled in during the second, tying it on a Kale Brakefield touchdown run before Brakefield hit Maddax Mobly downfield for another score to put the Bulldogs up 13–7.
But Lincoln Christian answered right before the break. Carter Ricke found Brett Kaste for a touchdown as time expired in the half, flipping the lead back to the Bulldogs at 14–13 and setting the stage for a wild second half.
Sulphur surged again early in the third, with Brakefield punching in his second rushing touchdown and adding the two-point conversion for a 21–14 lead. The swing point came fast — Mobly was tackled in the end zone for a safety to cut it to 21–16, and Lincoln Christian immediately cashed in when Baker powered in for the go-ahead touchdown and the Bulldogs added the two-point conversion to make it 24–21.
The fourth quarter belonged to the defenses. Sulphur pushed for one last answer, but Lincoln Christian held firm, closing the final chapter on a championship run that ended with history.
