EDMOND — Powered by a dominant first half from Landen Griffith and a late defensive stand, Talihina survived Hominy’s fourth-quarter surge to claim a 26–20 win in the Class A-II state championship Thursday afternoon at Chad Richison Stadium.
Talihina set the tone early behind Griffith, who connected with Noah Lloyd for a first-quarter touchdown before keeping it himself in the second quarter as the Golden Tigers jumped out to an 18–0 halftime lead.
Hominy answered coming out of the break when Blaine Hipp found Isaiah Hughes downfield for a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion, but Talihina responded immediately. Griffith punched in his second rushing touchdown of the game and the Tigers converted the two-point try to stretch the margin back to 26–8 late in the third.
The Bucks mounted one final push behind Hipp, who threw a touchdown pass to Parker Wheeler and later kept it himself to cut the deficit to 26–20 early in the fourth quarter. Talihina’s defense stood firm the rest of the way, sealing the win and turning away Hominy’s final possessions.
