EDMOND — Behind four rushing touchdowns from Delijah Matthews and a balanced, suffocating performance on both sides of the ball, Carl Albert powered past Bishop McGuinness 48–7 Saturday afternoon at a foggy Chad Richison Stadium to secure a Class 5A state championship, complete its third four-peat in school history and move past Ada with a state-record 20 gold balls.
Matthews set the tone from the opening series. The senior tailback slashed in from 20 yards out for the first score, then took a direct snap for his second touchdown as the Titans jumped to a 14–0 first-quarter lead. In the second, Matthews again lined up in the Wildcat, fired a strike to Lebron Royal to get inside the red zone, and moments later punched in his third touchdown to make it 21–0. Anderson Collier then dropped a 22-yard dime to Jacson Webster in the front corner of the end zone, stretching the margin to 28–0 at halftime.
Bishop McGuinness finally broke through in the third quarter when JR Harris found Braydon Splitt down the seam for a 41-yard touchdown to trim the deficit to 28–7. But Carl Albert’s defense clamped down everywhere else, holding the Irish to 78 rushing yards and 207 total yards while forcing six punts and allowing just three third-down conversions.
The Titans used the fourth quarter to put an emphatic stamp on another title run. Matthews cashed in his fourth rushing touchdown on a short direct snap to push the lead back to 35–7, and Collier went back to the air, hitting Carter Akin on back-to-back scoring throws—first on a 31-yard strike and then on a deep shot downfield in the final minute—to close out the 48–7 rout and start another championship celebration in the south end zone.
