The Washington Warriors and the Lone Grove Longhorns were both looking to stay at the top of the district and this game has high implications for the district title.
The first three innings of this game would be all defense and the lefty pitchers duel between Washington’s Tristan Babbitt and Lone Grove’s Cale Sudderth. Both teams would manage to get runners in scoring position but defense would prevail to get the third out. The top of the fourth would bring some scoring as the Longhorns would strike first with an RBI single from Cannon Schoonover that would turn into a double on error but three consecutive outs followed, Bottom of the fourth the Warriors would tie it up with an RBI double from Liam Keltner after a sacrifice bunt from Easton Berglan would advance runners to second, Two consecutive outs by the Longhorns defense would follow up. Top of the fifth after giving up a walk the Warriors defense would come up big to get two more outs, Bottom of the inning the Warriors would get two more runs on the board on a swinging bunt from Case Taylor in which he would get to first on error. Top of the sixth the Warriors would turn to Johnny Montoya in relief for Babbitt and would strikeout two batters in the process. The Warriors defense would prevail in the top of the seventh inning to hang on and get the win 3-1.
Tristan Babbitt would get the win on the mound for the Warriors only surrendering one hit and one run over five innings, striking out six and walking six. Johnny Montoya threw two scoreless innings in relief surrendering three hits, striking out two and walking none. Cale Sudderth went six innings for the Longhorns allowing three runs on four hits, striking out 10 and walking four.
Liam Keltner lead the team with two hits in three at bats, Dax McCaskill stole two bases with the team stealing five bases overall. Cannon Schoonover lead the team at the plate going 1-2 on the day with one run scored.
The Warriors are back in action tomorrow at Lone Grove for the second game of the series.
