First week of January always means tournament week across the State as well as mid January and I got to thinking what hospitality rooms are the best ones? I tweeted out the other day asking your opinion and definitely got some interesting results.
The majority vote appeared to be the one at the Kingston Tournament, Personally I have not been to that tournament yet but in due time I plan to eventually go. I did however see some pictures in the feed on the tweet from Robert Burns of Kingston and it definitely looks top notch. Durant Democrat writer and voice of the Silo Rebels Kevin Farr says Kingston is in a league of it’s own
I have been in my fair share of hospitality rooms both regular season tournament and playoffs, For those that don’t know I try to cover my alma mater’s tournament when I’m not off covering another one, Porum hosts two tournaments, You got the Armstrong Bank Invitational in December and the Cross Telephone Invitational in January. I still remember going in there during my high school days and it was always pretty good, For the most part the FACS classes would prepare most of it but you would sometimes see some parents bring things, Once in awhile someone always brought pies in on Saturday. The Chieftain Classic at Graham-Dustin was always a great one in my opinion, The community would bring something different every night and it was always very good. The Bank 7 Mustang Holliday Classic always a big one they would have different things in there all throughout the day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Washington Tournament did wonderful with their hospitality room and it would differ every night, I know on Championship Saturday the Goldsby Church had sponsored it when they did tacos.
Central High girls coach Lance Osburn says the Coliseum Classic had a good setup with Italian on day one and fajitas on day two, He also said the SW Shootout at Chattanooga mainly had bbq this year but was pretty good.
Adam Diesselhorst of Skordle says Canton and Bishop McGuiness are same as far as setup goes with people bringing in homemade dishes and had their name and dish on a place card and said Cashion was a mix of people bringing in homemade dishes and Eischen’s Chicken, He also added that Kingfisher and Morrison has a good one.
V-Dawg says the MC-6 Conference John Rind Tournament at Broken Bow is a favorite of his and a great one, He said at one point each school got to host it once every eight years but now the schools share the responsiblity each year with different schools working together on different nights, He also adds that each night they try to outdo the other schools and there are usually lots of tables and seating and often there was volunteers walking around refilling drinks.
Wayne boys coach Jackson Embry says the Alex Longhorn Classic is a good one and mentioned for the tournament seeding they prepared steaks, baked potatoes and salads then he also said they would do breakfast casseroles for the morning games and also did things like taco bars, chopped and sliced brisket, nachos and tons of homemade deserts
