Panthers heading back to Riverside Conference Tournament championship for second season in a row

The Porum Panthers are back in the Riverside Conference Tournament championship game for the second season in a row and looking to win it for first time since 2015.

The Panthers played against the Gans Grizzlies in the first game of the day and it was the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Panthers would get off to a slow start in this game but they would strike first in the bottom of the first inning off of a fielder’s choice to first but Michael Wright would score from third after hitting a triple earlier in the inning. Top of the second would be quick as Braden Catron would go three up and three down to get three consecutive strikeouts, Bottom of second would be quick for the Panthers with two strikeouts and a ground out. Third inning would be when the Panthers would come alive, Isaiah Sallee would score a run from third after a line out at first to get it going, Two balks would score two more runs to make it 4-0, An RBI double from Rock would score Tillery from second, After stealing to third Rock would score after a ground out to first. Top of fourth would be very similar going three up and three down. Bottom of fourth Cooper Franklin would step up to the plate and get his second home run of the week to score three runs and then Rock would get an RBI single to score Tillery from third to secure the win. Catron surrendered zero runs on two hits over four innings, striking out 11 and only walking one. Rock went 2-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Base stealing was the talk of this game as two players stole at least two bases, Tillery lead with five stolen bases.

The Ross Road Rivalry was on full display in the second game of the day for the Panthers. The two teams had split this season as the Panthers won the first game 4-0 and the Warriors won 2-0 the second time. The Panthers would strike first with four runs in the first inning mainly from walks and hit by pitch. Second inning the Warriors would answer back with three runs, one on a ground out that allowed Luke Pierce to score from third and an RBI single from Maddux Shelby that scored Blake Rowe while the Panthers struggled to get on base in the bottom of the inning. Top of third Denver Morgan would get an RBI double to tie the game and they would take the lead with an RBI single from Caden Dishman to score Morgan from third. Bottom of third the Panthers would answer back with a tying run coming off an walk and another to take the lead when Brayden Stinnett would score from third after a ground out at first. Fourth inning the Warriors would once again tie the game this coming on a ground out to first after a Blaize Herriman bunt to score Isaiah Terrell from third. Bottom of fourth the Panthers would get the runs going to pull away, Gage Scarberry’s RBI double to score Rylind Tillery after two walks got it going, Kyle Rock would score from third after a fly out to left field, Scarberry would also score after tagging up, Two more runs would come after five consecutive walks then Tillery would get an RBI single to score Michael Wright from third, Rock would get an RBI double to score Braden Catron and Trevor Schexnayder, Another walk would score another run and the game would end on a hit by pitch to seal it and send the Panthers to the conference championship for the second consecutive season.

Gage Scarberry started the game for the Panthers and surrendered three runs on zero hits over one inning and striking out two. Braden Catron came back in and surrendered one run on zero hits over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Isaiah Sallee threw two innings in relief. Maddux Shelby started the game for the Warriors and surrendered four runs on zero hits over one-third of the inning. Kyle Rock, Braden Catron, Gage Scarberry, Rylind Tillery and Brayden Stinnett each had one hit to lead the team in hits.

The Panthers will play Gore tomorrow night in a championship rematch of last season at 4:00pm at Gore.
