Week 8 Games to Watch in District Play

We are getting close to playoffs meaning every district game is crucial for seeding, A few districts will be decided this week.

Skordle Games of the Week

Tonkawa at Hominy

This game will pretty much decide the A-5 champion as both teams are still undefeated in district play, Hominy has looked really good all season and have a lot of size, Tonkawa is small but we all know never count out a Mike Kirtley coached team. Tom Nelson and Randy Turney will have the call.

Jones at Chandler

This game will be a deciding factor in 2A-2 which has arguably been the toughest district in the class. Jones is still undefeated in district play while Chandler has only lost one district game and that was last week to Crossings Christian, One thing to point out on the Longhorns is they have played a really tough non district with Bethany, Washington and Lincoln Christian which has definitely prepared them for this gauntlet district while Chandler has played two tough teams in non district with Poteau and Bristow. Mark Rodgers and Adam Diesselhorst will have the call

Other Games to Watch

Panama at Gore

This game likely decides the title for A-8 as both teams lead the district. Gore’s defense has been solid all season, Most points the Pirates gave up was 21 against Mounds on week 3, Panama is off to a really good start with a young team that has only one senior with a really good running game While I think the running game will be the deciding factor both teams have QBs that can let it fly down field.

Wynnewood at Ringling

This game like Gore and Panama will decide a district title. Both Ringling and Wynnewood are at the top of A-4 and an interesting stat for the Blue Devils. They are on a 37 game winning streak in district play. Their last district loss came in 2016 against Elmore City-Pernell 25-6. Interesting stat for both teams, The Blue Devils are averaging 43 points per game on offense and only allowing 6 points per game on defense while the Savages are averaging 40 points per game on offense while 15 points per game on defense. I look for this game to be one that relies on the run game heavily, Both teams historically have been a power run team, Wynnewood has size while Ringling is small but quick but if there’s one thing we learned from last season it’s that you don’t have to be big to dominate, Clinton last year won the 4A state title and had the smallest but fastest offensive and defensive line in the state.

Dewar at Quinton

This game will decide the title for B-5. Both teams coming off dominant wins and this will be a battle of two different styles of play. Dewar is one of the most balanced teams in Class B with the run and pass while Quinton is looking to pound the rock on offense. The running game for the Dragons has been very good throughout the year and the running game could be a big factor in this one.

Porum at Webbers Falls

This game is more for playoff positioning in B-5 but it is a big rivalry none the less. The matchup in general is known as the Ross Road Rivalry and it has been a district matchup since 2020. The Panthers will be looking for their first win against the Warriors since 2019 when they last won 24-0. Webbers Falls has won the last two meetings 48-26 and 48-0. I expect to see the running games for both teams play a huge role in this matchup and with it being a big rivalry for the area anything is possible, The Panthers passing game has also taken huge strides this year which could be something else to watch.

Millwood at Oklahoma Christian School

This game will likely decide the 2A-1 title, Millwood is a young team but has quickly proven themselves as a team to watch in postseason and as we all know the Falcons have tradition in postseason. OCS on the other hand will be looking to defend their 2A-1 crown and they have some solid defensive pieces. This will be an interesting game to see unfold.

Guthrie at Carl Albert

The race to the 5A-2 title is heating up quick. Carl Albert is coming off a good road win at Bishop McGuiness last week 31-24 and will face a Guthrie team who is very well in contention, As Mark Rodgers once said on The Middle of the Day Show, Class 5A is very wide open and I do agree with that statement, Carl Albert will look to defend their 5A-2 crown while Guthrie will look to make a statement, 5A-2 is probably the toughest district in the class seeing you have Carl Albert, Bishop McGuiness, Guthrie, Piedmont and so on in that fashion and it’s always an interesting race for the district title.
