Warriors outlast Wolverines in Week 0 Opener

In a battle of two top contenders in Class 2A this game did not disappoint, The No. 4 ranked Vian Wolverines hosted the No. 1 ranked Washington Warriors on Friday night in one of the most anticipated games on Week 0. The Warriors would be leading 26-0 at halftime but the Wolverines would gain a little momentum in the second half but it wasn’t enough to outlast the Warriors as they would go on to win 39-24 to go to 1-0 to start the season.

In the first half alone the Warriors defense held the Wolverines rushing attack to only 25 yard on 18 carries, The second half would be where the Wolverines offense would get it going behind the RB duo of DeSean Mays and Masyn Wright.

Major Cantrell would go 7-14 for 151 yards and throw for two touchdowns and two interceptions to cap off the night. Cole Scott would rush for 59 yards and one touchdown while Hudson Howard would rush for 88 yards and one touchdown. Cage Morris would have 58 yards receiving for a touchdown as well as an 70 yard kickoff return touchdown. Hayden Milner would have himself a game on defense with 15 tackles for loss leading the Warriors defense

I caught up with head coach Brad Beller after the game. “Big start, Big plays in the first half and established a big lead and defense played well against the run in the first half” said Beller when asked about the keys to the game. I also asked about the outlook and thoughts on Class 2A. “Rejoice and Beggs will tell us a lot when they play in non district game, This was a big game and there’s a lot of teams all across the state that’s so spread out and don’t see those matchups until the playoffs so 2A is definitely wide open, A lot of big matchups early on before the playoffs” said Beller on thoughts on Class 2A

Washington will be back in action at home on week 1 against Sulphur.
