It was announced the other day that Women’s Professional Fastpitch league would be adding a team to Oklahoma City in June 2023. The team will be known as the Oklahoma City Spark, “Having a professional team in the softball capital of the world is crucial to moving this sport forward. As a female owner, offering opportunities for women to continue achieving their goals in a community built for this adventure, is exciting and humbling. Be the Spark!” said owner Tina Floyd in a press release. I can tell you firsthand that this is big for the city and the state, Oklahoma is indeed a softball state and I can tell you that first hand from covering high school softball and observing the college teams all across the state, For example The University of Oklahoma would win their second consecutive D1 national championship, Rogers State University would go on to win the D2 national championship, Two NAIA powerhouses in USAO and Oklahoma City University would go on to make a deep run in the NAIA world series with OCU winning the whole thing, Murray State College would get to the championship game of the NJCAA D2 world series on top of that, You pretty much see that Oklahoma is definitely a softball state and I am looking forward to seeing the Oklahoma City Spark have success.
