Taking a look at the Class 5A districts this upcoming season

Football season is once again around the corner and this would be a perfect time to take a look at the districts for the upcoming season.

District 1

Lawton MacArthur (Last season 11-2, 1st in 5A-1, Lost in Semi-Finals to McAlester)

Altus (Last season 1-9, 7th in 5A-1, Did not qualify)

Ardmore (Last season 9-2, 2nd in 5A-1, Lost in first round to Bishop McGuiness)

Duncan (Last season 4-6, 5th in 5A-1, Did not qualify)

Elgin (Last season 4-6, 7th in 4A-1, Did not qualify)

El Reno (Last season 4-7, 4th in 5A-1, Lost in first round to Carl Albert 42-7)

Midwest City (Last season 5-5, 5th in 6A D2- I, Did not qualify)

Noble (Last season 8-3, 3rd in 5A-1, Lost in first round to Guthrie 40-0)

I can tell you first hand 5A-1 is gonna be a tough one once again, This district year in and year out has been a fight to the finish, Midwest City coming down from 6A-II will make things really interesting here, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a tiebreaker scenario here.

District 2

Piedmont (Last season 5-6, 4th in 5A-2, Lost in first round to Lawton MacArthur 14-10)

Carl Albert (Last season 10-3, 1st in 5A-1, Lost in Semi-Finals to Collinsville 27-20)

Lawton Eisenhower (Last season 5-5, 5th in 5A-2, Did not qualify)

Guthrie (Last season 10-2, 2nd in 5A-2, Lost in quarterfinals to McAlester 27-21)

Bishop McGuiness (Last season 7-5, 3rd in 5A-2, Lost in quarterfinals to Collinsville 56-35)

Shawnee (Last season 4-7, 4th in 5A-3, Lost in first round to Collinsville 60-14)

Southeast (Last season 4-6, 6th in 5A-1, Did not qualify)

This district gets a little interesting for the second through fourth seeds, Carl Albert will more than likely control their destiny here, Guthrie, Piedmont and Bishop McGuiness will definitely make the playing field interesting, Remember Guthrie and Bishop McGuiness did take Carl Albert to the wire last year. Piedmont’s offense is an interesting one to say the least and even as a young four seed last year they would take 5A-1 one seed Lawton MacArthur to the wire in the first round but I look forward to seeing how 5A-2 plays out

District 3

Sapulpa (Last season 6-5, 4th in 5A-4, Lost in first round to McAlester 48-14)

McAlester (Last season 13-1, 1st in 5A-3, Lost in State Championship to Collinsville 42-35)

Durant (Last season 1-9, 8th in 5A-3, Did not qualify)

Coweta (Last season 10-2, 2nd in 5A-3, Lost in quarterfinals to Carl Albert 14-7)

Del City (Last season 9-2, 1st in 6A D2-I, Lost in quarterfinals to Sand Springs 21-17)

Tulsa Memorial (Last season 1-9, 7th in 5A-4, Did not qualify)

East Central (Last season 4-6, 5th in 5A-3, Did not qualify)

Glenpool (Last season 5-5, 5th in 5A-4, Did not qualify)

I could see 5A-3 coming down to the last game, McAlester I could see opening as the favorite here with their defense and speedy offense, Coweta with the new QB will be interesting, Del City coming down from 6A-II and coming off a district title will really make the fight for the top of the district interesting, Durant has been an intriguing team here, While they did finish dead last in 5A-3 a year ago but their defense will be the thing to keep an eye on with them having Xadavien Sims and Colton Yarbrough transfer in. The four seed I could see being wide open between Glenpool, Durant and Sapulpa

District 4

Claremore (Last season 2-8, 6th in 5A-4, Did not qualify)

Bishop Kelley (Last season 5-6, 3rd in 5A-3, Lost in first round to Pryor 21-6)

Collinsville (Last season 14-0, 1st in 5A-4, Won State Championship over McAlester 42-35)

Grove (Last season 10-2, 1st in 4A-3, Lost in quarterfinals to Elk City 45-24)

Edison Prep (Last season 3-7, 7th in 5A-3 did not qualify)

Pryor (Last season 9-3, 2nd in 5A-4, Lost in quarterfinals to Lawton MacArthur 40-0)

Nathan Hale (Last season 0-10, 8th in 5A-4, Did not qualify)

Will Rogers (Last season 4-6, 6th in 5A-3, Did not qualify)

5A-4 I feel like could literally be anyone’s game, You have a Collinsville team that will be looking to make another deep run, Grove could possibly the favorite here with all that they bring back but you also have Bishop Kelley and Pryor in the mix here, The top three seeds I would watch closely here. The fourth seed will definitely be wide open.
