Here’s how the scenario begins, It’s bottom of the 7th inning, Game is tied at 5-5, The count is 3-1 with a runner at second and Brennan Milligan at bat had his sights set one thing as he steps up and hits into centerfield allowing the runner to get past third and score to seal the walkoff win for the Lions 6-5 over rival Tuttle and would win for the first time since 2019, It was also the third time the two teams met this season with Tuttle win the first two times. The Lions would start out by defeating Pryor 16-1 in the first round behind a solid performance by Milligan on the mound with five strikeouts and only allowing one run on four hits and had a home run on the day then it was on to the semifinals where they would defeat Marlow 5-1 behind a dominant performance from Jaxon Gless on the mound with 12 strikeouts on the day only allowing two hits and not giving up a run while Kale Miller lead the team in hits with four while Brayson Carter had two stolen bases leading up to the championship where they faced off against Tuttle. Milligan would have the walkoff single as well as leading the team with multiple hits tied with Gless. “Brayson got a hit before me and when he got to second I was thinking I was gonna bunt then gave me the go ahead swing and I got my pitch and hit it” said Milligan when asked about the anticipation of the walkoff. “When we stole second with Brayson Carter, I knew Milligan was gonna win us the ballgame, His brother pitched us to our first state title in 2015 and it was only fitting that he won the last one here in 2022” said head coach Josh Raney when asked about his reaction to Milligan’s walkoff. Blanchard would go to 34-20 all time in State Tournament play after the win and are tied 15th overall with Claremore and Sperry and that stat courtesy of iwasatthegame.
