Excitement was in the air as Dax McCaskill hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 6th inning as that meant the Warriors had just won their first title in program history. The Warriors had a dominant run in the state tournament defeating Victory Christian 15-5 in the opening round and Camden Bates would lead the charge going 4-4 at the plate to lead the Warriors in hits while Dax McCaskill made the most plays with six, Then it was it on to the semifinals where they defeated Salina 9-3 in a game which Reese Stephens and Sutton Moore would come up big in the 7th inning with three runs to seal the win, Stephens would go 3-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits and the team overall would have five stolen bases with two players stealing more than one, Bates lead with two stolen bases, Then came the championship against Kingston in which the Warriors prevailed 13-2 to win it for first time in program history and it was their first championship appearance since 1998. The Warriors got the scoring going quickly as Kane Springer would get it started with an RBI single to score a run but the 6th inning is where the bats really got going as Springer, Moore and McCaskill all had RBIs in the inning but the biggest score would be McCaskill’s two run home run to seal the run rule victory for the Warriors. Tristin Babbitt would have a dominant performance on the mound only allowing five hits and two runs over five and a third innings while getting three strikeouts on the day, Bates would lead the team in hits going 3-4 at the plate, McCaskill’s walkoff home run would be the highlight of the game, The count was 3-2 and a runner at second and the pressure was on but he would come in clutch as he would hit it into deep left field and over the wall it went. “There was a lot of pressure, Striking out, Nobody likes to strikeout and I just went up there and had fun and did my job” said McCaskill on his thoughts and reaction post game. The Warriors athletics have definitely had a great year in everything qualifying for state in cheer and gameday cheer, cross country, fastpitch, slowpitch, powerlifting, boys basketball, girls golf, track, baseball and a state runner up in a football.
